Reviews — The New York TimesFrom the New York Times May 18, 1912 HAMMERSTEIN’S LATEST HIT. London, May 17, - Oscar Hammerstein gave to London operagoers a delightful novelty to-night, when he presented Massenet’s “Don Quixote,” which was produced at Monte Carlo some years ago. Lafont, a new discovery of Hammerstein’s, scored an unqualified success in the title rôle. The production is handsomely mounted, and the episode where Don Quixote charges the windmill and is thrown into the air is a realistic fashion, was applauded to the echo.
