MARY GARDEN SINGS PRINCE.
Massenet’s “Cendrillon” Given by
Philadelphia-Chicago Opera Co.

Special to The New York Times.

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 6, - The Philadelphia-Chicago Grand Opera Company gave Massenet’s “Cendrillon” to-night with a cast that included Mary Garden, Maggie Teyte, Jenny Dufau, Mabel Riegelman, Louise Breta, Marie Cavan, Hector Dufranne, Gustave Huberdeau, and Rosina Galli, and with splendid scenic and spectacular effects. Despite a terrific rainstorm, which prevailed most of the day, the house was crowded and the audience bestowed enthusiastic applause upon the opera and artists.
Mary Garden as Prince Charming again demonstrated her versatility of characterization and made a beautiful picture in her masculine attire. She did not appear until the second act, and the audience gave her a tremendous reception. Miss Teyte was radiant as Cinderella, her personality being splendidly adapted to the rôle.
Jenny Bufau, a new French coloratura soprano, made a good impression. Campanini conducted.
The company will sing “Thaïs,” with Miss Garden in the title rôle, at the Lyric Theatre in Baltimore to-morrow night, where the house is already sold out.
