Background

Synopsis

     The action, which takes place in the Midi of France at the time of the Saracen invasions, tells how Fervaal a Celtic chief, wounded in battle, is nursed back to health by Guilhen, a Saracen sorceress. Arfagard, a Druid, forces Fervaal to leave Guilhen, who thinking herself betrayed, lures the Celts to their deaths.
